Syrian-Turkish relations excellent

Sana, May 04: President Abdullah Gul of Turkey said the Syrian-Turkish relations are excellent and run by institutions on all levels, adding that the Syrian and Turkish peoples look at these relations in a positive and special vision.

In a statement to Syrian al-Watan newspaper to be published on Wednesday, President Gul stressed that these relations are not only limited to exchanged visits by citizens of the two countries, but there are also reciprocal visits by the leaderships of the two countries.

The Turkish President welcomed the forthcoming visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Turkey, expressing joint desire that the excellent relations between the two countries to be on highest levels.

President Gul pointed out that he will sign with President al-Assad bilateral agreements, voicing Turkey’s readiness to review the trade, economic or any signed agreements to re-correct their tracks in the interests of both countries.

On the regional situation, President Gul said the Israeli current threats regarding the allegations of transferring Scud missiles to Lebanese Hizbullah party aims at diverting peace process off its natural track.

He considered the continued building settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank as unacceptable, stressing necessity to halt these practices.

He underlined that his country continues exerting efforts regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, pointing out that the sanctions will be inappropriate and focus should be on diplomatic efforts with Iran.

On the Iraqi issue, President Gul said that his country stands at one distance from all the Iraqi parties, pointing out that the issue of the formation of the government and the Iraqi latest elections are Iraqi internal affair.
