Syrian students march for reforms

Damascus, April 14: About 150 Syrian students have staged a rally for the first time in Aleppo, Syria’s second biggest city, to demand political reforms in the country.

The students marched on the campus of Aleppo University on Wednesday, activists said on Thursday.

Several hundred students also rallied at Damascus University for a second day in the capital on Wednesday, Reuters reported.

Activists accused government forces of arresting several people in front of the main gate of Damascus University.

The protests have been held in several Syrian cities since mid-March. Scores of people have been killed during the protests.

Authorities have denied allegations that security forces are responsible for the death of protesters. They blame the violence on armed groups, saying security forces have been given clear instructions not to hurt civilians.

The government announced earlier that several members of a terrorist group have been arrested and have confessed to shooting people.

Damascus says the protests and the ensuing violence are organized by foreign sources and are aimed at destabilizing the country.
