Syria, April 19: The Syrian government has lifted 48-year emergency law in the country following pro-reform demonstrations.
The Cabinet on Tuesday passed bills on legislative decrees to end the state of emergency, abolishing Higher State Security Court, bill regulating right to peaceful protest,
Last Saturday, President Bashar al-Assad told the first session of Syria’s new government the emergency law would be lifted by next week.
Assad formed the new government on Thursday after weeks of anti-government protests over political and economic reforms.
The protests have been held in several Syrian cities since mid-March.
