Syndicate policy for project permissions: Harish urges Centre

Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao today urged the Centre to bring in a syndicate policy to give immediate permissions to irrigation projects.

He called on Union Forest & Environment Minister Harsha Vardhan in Delhi and thanked him for according second phase of environment permission for Kaleshwaram project. Later, he told media persons that he urged the Union minister to bring in a syndicate policy at Central level. This policy, he said, should ensure that the States get immediate forest and environment permissions for important and urgent projects while construction on priority basis, Harish stated.

The Centre has to consider giving permissions urgently for projects of railways, irrigation and national highways, the minister said. Stating that there are strong Acts for pollution control, Harish Rao stressed the need for immediate permissions for drinking water projects that would not cause any inconvenience to environment. He also explained to Harsha Vardhan on the prestigious projects like Kaleshwaram, Sitharama Lift, Palamur Lift and others and sought Central assistance and cooperation for their speedy completion.
