A symposium entitled ‘Elimination of Violence Against Women _ Feminist Perspective’ was organised by Centre for Women’s Studies, Maulana Azad National Urdu University on November 26. Research Scholars of Department of Women Studies participated in the symposium. It must be noted that United Nations has declared November 25 as the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’.
Prof. Mohammed Shahed HoD Social Work attended the symposium as chief guest. During his speech he blamed patriarchal system for violence against women. He stressed the need to change social mindset to eliminate violence against women.
Dr. Shaheda HoD of Department of Women Studies lamented that although several measures were proposed during conventions and conferences held on global level for elimination of violence against women and several laws were enacted on national level but they were hardly implemented.
Dr. Amena Tahseen, Dr. Gulfishan Habeeb, Dr. Kahkashan Lateef, Mrs. Shabana Kesar and others also spoke on the occasion.
Amena Tabassum Junior Research Fellow convened the programme.
