Sydney, July 03: POLICE are urging vigilance following the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl in an horrific attack in Sydney’s inner west this week.
The girl has told police she was walking along Norton Street in Leichhardt abound 5pm on Tuesday when she was approached by a black 4WD containing four men.
She was then allegedly taken to a laneway parallel to Lilyfield Road where she was sexually assaulted in the vehicle.
While two of the men held the girl down, she was raped by a third man, inside the vehicle.
After being released from the car, the girl told police she ran home and reported the sick attack.
She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for examination that evening.
The terrifying assault follows an earlier attack on a teenage girl in Mona Vale on Monday night.
The 18-year-old woman was told police she was grabbed from behind and threatened at knife-point as she returned to her home after catching a bus from the city at around 11.30pm on Monday.
It is alleged the man held a knife to the woman’s throat, before being walked to a nearby garden, where she was assaulted.
Northern Beaches Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Craig Wonders described the man as being of caucasian appearance, tall, slim, with dark brown hair.
Following the attack of the teenager, Detective Superintendent Paul Devaney, said parents are encouraged sit down with their children and to reinforce Safe People, Safe Places messages.
“Children should avoid walking on their own especially in the late afternoon or evening,” he said.
“Young people should be encouraged to walk with other family members, friends or an adult they know and to stick to main roads and paths that are well-lit.
“If a parent is aware of a young person who has been approached by a stranger they should report the matter to police immediately,” Detective Superintendent Devaney said.
