Swine flu showing downward trend

New Delhi, October 18: After claiming hundreds of lives and spreading panic across the country, the deadly swine flu is finally showing a downward trend with only 10 persons succumbing to the disease last week.

Out of these 10 deaths, the maximum five were reported from Gujarat, two from Madhya Pradesh and one each from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, Health ministry sources said today.

All the 98 cases reported during the last week were indigenous cases.

32 deaths had been reported due to the disease in the week ending October 10, while 54 people succumbed to it the week before that, they said.

Till date, samples from 19,5224 persons have been tested for Influenza A H1N1 in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country. 44,987 (23.04 per cent) of them were found positive.
