Swine flu: Jalandhar couple, Delhi boy among new 9 cases

Mumbai, July 07: A Jalandhar-based couple and a Delhi boy were among the nine new cases of swine flu reported in the country today, which took the total number of those affected with the virus to 145.

Out of the nine fresh cases, two each are from Delhi, Jalandhar and Mumbai while one each is from Kochi, Bangalore and Gurgaon.

A Health Ministry official said that the country has reported 145 positive cases of swine flu so far, out of which 103 patients have been discharged. Fourty-two patients remain admitted to various hospitals across the country.

One of the Delhi cases is that of a seven-year-old boy, who travelled from Bavaria in Germany and reached Delhi June 26. His brother who travelled with him was also reported positive earlier.

The second case in Delhi is that of a 39-year-old man who reached the national capital yesterday from Kuwait. As the passenger was having running nose and fever, he was detected at the airport and admitted in the identified health facility.

The case in Jalandhar is that of a 46-year-old man and his 39-year-old wife who travelled from Bangkok and reached New Delhi on July three.

Out of the two cases in Mumbai, one is that of a 29-year-old woman while the second is that of a 52-year-old woman. The young woman reached Mumbai on July four from Canberra while the middle-aged woman reached the western metropolis from Bangkok.

In Bangalore, a 26-year-old man, who came from Bangkok on July four was found positive for swine flu while in Kochi, the fresh case was that of a 25-year-old man who travelled from London on June 29.

In Gurgaon, a 29-year-old woman was tested positive for the virus. She travelled from Singapore and reached Delhi June 28.

The two other cases, which were reported today, were inadvertently indicated as repeat samples earlier and hence not listed on that day as new positive cases.

“On June 28, two positive cases, a 68-year-old man from Bangalore who came from the US and 46-year-old man who reached Delhi, from the US were reported from National Institute of Communicable Diseases in New Delhi and National Institute of Virology in Pune which were inadvertently indicated as repeat samples and hence not listed on that day as new positive cases,” the official said.

“Both have been admitted and treated at identified health facilities and got discharged. The respective State Governments have taken all necessary action and traced their contacts. These two cases have now been added to the cumulative total of positive cases,” he said.

A 66-year-old Delhi woman, whose condition was critical earlier, is now stable, the official said, adding a total of 905 persons have been tested so far out of which 134 are positive for Influenza A H1N1 [Swine].
