Swine flu claims four more lives in Pune

Pune, December 03: Four more people, including a two-year-old infant who was suffering from congenital heart ailment, succumbed to the deadly Swine flu in last five days here, taking the H1N1 toll in the city to 117, officials said today.

Officials said Azad Mustafa Tarique (two) died on November 28 at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, however, his swab tests reported positive for Swine flu only today.

He was admitted on November 23 for cardiac repair surgery. Later, he developed flu-like symptoms, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and pneumonia, and was put on ventilator, they said. Senior citizen Pragati Dhaapre (68), a resident of Sinhagad Road area, also died in the same hospital on Tuesday after developing ARDS along with pneumonia and high fever. Vasti area resident, Vandana Sudam Surve (26) passed away at the Yashwatnrao Chavan Memorial Hospital on Monday. However, her death was declared only yesterday evening after her swab tests reports were received. Another homemaker Sangeeta Dattatray Nigde (32) of Purandar taluka died at the Noble Hospital yesterday evening. She was on a ventilator support and had developed ARDS and pneumonia.

Twenty more people tested positive for H1N1 flu, taking the total number of positive cases in Pune to 1,895. Besides, 11 students from eight new schools were also infected with the H1N1 virus, health department said. So far, 291 students from 190 educational institutes have been infected by the deadly virus.
