Swine Flu cases touches 56 mark in Lucknow

With seven more fresh positive cases of swine flu detected in the state capital, the total number of patients affected from H1N1 virus has risen to 56. Surprisingly most of the cases in the state capital have been detected from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences(SGPGIMS).

SGPGIMS is expected to disclose the medical report of 40 patients today who have been examined by microbiologists. Senior Medical Officer of the state capital said they would get a study done on the reason why swine flu was spreading and a study would be conducted to find out whether SGPGIMS was in the core of H1N1 infection in the city. About 50 patients of the total 56 are either residents of SGPGIMS or are living in areas adjoining to the apex institution. However, doctors of microbiology department of SGPGIMS said Swine flu is an air-borne infection.

Dean of King George’s Medical University and public health expert Prof JV Singh would head the team of experts who would undertake the study. The team will take into account both the affected and non-affected residents of SGPGIMS and the localities around it. The experts will analyse the situation at the earliest and suggest preventive measures.

Physicians continue to stress on preventive measures, particularly sneeze hygiene and washing of hands to limit the infection. They also said in 90 per cent of the cases, H1N1 is not fatal, therefore one should not panic.
