Chandigarh, November 15: Swine flu cases in the city have reported a spurt with the fall in temperature as the number of people infected with the disease crossed 100 in a fortnight. Ten people, including three students from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) and four from private schools, were found to be infected yesterday.
A fortnight earlier, the number of infected cases was 57. The PEC has already been closed for a week after six of its students were found positive for swine flu three days ago.
Four private schools have also been shut down for seven days after some students were found to be down with the virus, city”s nodal officer for swine flu H C Gera said. Four persons have already died of swine flu in the area comprising Chandigarh, Panchkula (Haryana) and Mohali (Punjab).
In the wake of the increasing cases of swine flu in the city, the Union Territory”s Home-cum-Health Secretary Ram Niwas called a meeting yesterday to review the preparation to meet any untoward situation.
