Swine Flu Cases in Oman on the Rise

Muscat, August 06: With the detection of 30 more cases over the past three days, the number of people affected by Swine Flu in Oman has risen to 125, the National Committee for Follow-Up and Control of H1N1 said.

It also said that all cases discovered until last week had now fully recovered except one patient who was receiving treatment and in stable condition.

Meanwhile, Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saidi, the Health Ministry’s Under-secretary for Health Affairs, said that the H1N1 vaccine was expected to be available in October, but in limited quantities due to the increasing demand from all countries.

More vaccines, he added, would be available at the beginning of the
next year.

Saidi reminded Haj pilgrims in Oman that Saudi Arabia had reiterated all Hajis must vaccinate against the disease before travelling to the kingdom. Those who were not vaccinated, he added, would not be allowed to enter the country, he pointed out.

The health ministry earlier said it had adequate stocks of H1N1 drugs, adding that there was no need for the public
to panic.

It called on the public to take precautionary measures as advised by the authorities, and strongly advised against buying anti-viral drugs without a
doctor’s prescription.
