Swine flu cases causing scare in Vizag

Andhra Pradesh Ports and Infrastructure Minister G. Srinivasa Rao today directred the medical and health officials to take steps to prevent the spread of swine flu in the Port City. Mr Srinivasa Rao, who had visited a Swine flu patient who was being treated in a Corporate hospital here, a couple of days ago, instructed the District Health Officer, Dr G Savitri to ensure that drugs were available in all the hospitals for treating swine flu cases and educate the people on the precautions to protect themselves.

The Condition of the 30-year-old man who was battling for life in the corporate hospital here was stable. The man was admitted to the hospital following high fever and respiratory complications on March 28. He said last year, a woman from East Godavari was treated for swine-flu.

In 2009, 29 swine flu cases were reported in the district, of who five patients succumbed during treatment. In 2010, 16 swine flu cases were registered in Visakhapatnam district and four persons succumbed to the virus. However, no case was reported last year, he said. UNI
