New Delhi: African Union celebrated its foundation day on Friday as several African envoys in New Delhi gathered at an event to commemorate the day along with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar took to his Twitter account to wish Africa on it foundation day.
“Wishing Africa on the foundation day of the African Union! EAM @SushmaSwaraj participated in the Africa Day celebrations in New Delhi along with Envoys of African nations. From colonial struggle to developmental ties – always together!” Kumar tweeted.

Earlier South African President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered a keynote on the occasion as part of which he said his country will use its position on the UN Security Council to unify the continent.
We aim to use this opportunity to promote peace and security in the world and more specifically in Africa where most of the world’s conflicts are located,” said Ramaphosa.
As per official website of African Union, May 25 marks the foundation day of the Organisation of African Unity.
The organisation formed in 1963 has completed 55 years of its foundation. (ANI)
