Swamy to seek PM’s sanction to prosecute senior bureaucrat

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Saturday said he will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for seeking permission to prosecute a senior bureaucrat in connection with Nirav Modi fraud case.

The Rajya Sabha MP took to Twitter and alleged that a senior official took gold biscuits from absconding jewellery baron Nirav Modi for himself and his daughter.

“One senior official took gold biscuits from Nirav Modi for himself and his daughter. He is part of the Gang of Four to save PC. My letter to PM will name him and ask for Sanction to prosecute him under Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act,” Swamy said.

He also said that Nirav Modi was allowed to escape and the January 2017 raid details were hushed up by senior officials in the Finance Ministry.

The senior BJP leader said, “Nirav Modi was raided by Revenue Intelligence on 14/1/17. But the action was blocked by these babus. Hence NM (Nirav Modi) fled abroad. In mid 17/12/17 PNB expose forced MoF (Ministry of Finance) to act. Some babus from Gujarat think no one can touch them. But my wife is Gujarati so no immunity.”

For those unversed, the PNB detected the multi-crore scam, wherein Nirav and his uncle Mehul Choksi had allegedly cheated the bank to the tune of Rs. 114 billion, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.

The scam, which reportedly began in 2011, was detected in the third week of January this year after which the PNB officials reported it to the concerned agencies.

Currently, the probe agencies are investigating the matter and have also seized many properties of Modi and Choksi. (ANI)
