Swamy Goud of TRS, farooq of congress file papers

Two nominations have been received for the post of chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council till Tuesday afternoon.

Leader of the Opposition in the Council Swamy Goud filed his nomination papers for the chairman’s post as official candidate of the ruling TRS at 10.30 am on Tuesday. Similarly, after 12 noon, Congress candidate Farooq Hussain filed his nomination for the post. Both the leaders were accompanied by their respective party members while filing their nomination papers.

TRS candidate Swamy Goud was accompanied by ministers Nayani Narasimha Reddy, K Taraka Ramarao, Harish Rao and others. Election to the chairman’s post has become inevitable as two candidates are in the fray. He has handed over his nomination papers to Legislature Secretary Raja Sadaram in the presence of TRS and MIM leaders.

SWAMY GOUD APPEALS FOR SUPPORT

Speaking after filing his nomination, Swamy Goud said he had done so on the directive of party supremo and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao. He said the Telangana State was possible only due to supreme sacrifices made by Telangana agitators and uncompromising struggle for separate State by the TRS chief KCR. He appealed to the members of all political parties to support his candidature for the chairman’s post and enhance dignity of the Upper House. He also promised to function to the expectations of all the members of the House. He requested the Congress candidate to withdraw his nomination paving the way for unanimous election.
Congress candidate Farooq Hussain today appealed to the Congressmen to support his candidature. Stating that the party was in a critical position and needed the support of everyone, he said he would meet all MLCs, regardless of their party affiliation and seek their support for his candidature. He recalled that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao and he had worked in Congress Party at one point. “With this relation, I will seek his support too to get elected to the post,” the Congress MLC added.

Former PCC president and Congress MLC D Srinivas hoped that all the Congress MLCs would vote for Farooq Hussain. He said he urged Governor ESL Narasimhan to procrastinate the process of election of chairman of the Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, the Congress party issued a whip to all its 17 members in the Council to vote for the party nominee Farooq Hussain.
