New delhi,March 12 :Wedding photos of Anoop Kumar Sahai, the Ghaziabad godman who is on the run after the police turned the heat on him, has given a new twist to his tale.Sahai, alias Swami ji , is alleged to have kidnapped a 25- year- old MBA student from Ghaziabad.
But on Wednesday, the Greater Noida police found wedding photos of the 40- year- old Sahai with Priyanka Srivastava, who was allegedly kidnapped by him.Sahai is already married and has a seven- year- old daughter. His wife and daughter live in Gorakhpur.
The photographs — found in a car owned by the godman — prima facie suggests that he had eloped with his “ hostage” and got married “ somewhere, sometime”. The silver- grey Chevrolet Optra was parked at his residence in Purvanchal Silver City Apartments in Sector- Pi under the Kasna police station area.“ The photos are yet to be verified. Sahai is still untraceable, but raids are being carried out to nab him,” SP ( city) A. K. Vijeta said.
While the police claimed that the girl had run away with Sahai, her family denied it and alleged that the photographs had been morphed by Sahai’s elder brother Ashutosh.“ These are morphed photos. It has been done to calm the media and prevent any police action,” Priyanka’s mother Sudha said.
“ Priyanka used to treat him ( Sahai) like an elder brother and they hardly interacted,” she added.Sudha said that Priyanka had been suffering from depression after her father’s death.
At times she would become violent and uncontrollable. “ In such a condition there is no possibility that she would remain silent if Sahai forced her to marry him. For her, this is out of question,” Sudha said. It was to cure Priyanka of her depression that her mother had got in touch with Sahai.
“ Sahai had promised Priyanka’s family Rs 50 lakh to 1 crore if they got her married to him,” the family’s lawyer Rohit Sharma said.The proposal was turned down and on February 5, the girl went missing.
