Swamy demands CBI inquiry into passage for Prabhakaran

Janata Party President Subramanyam Swamy today demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation against union minister P Chidambaram and DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi (CBI) in connection with influencing safe passage for LTTE Chief late V Prabhakaran from Sri Lanka before he was captured by the Sri Lanka forces when he was in Malayasia. Adddressing the press here, Mr Swamy, who is here to deliver a lecture on corruption said a story was published in a british newspaper, Sunday Guaridan, quoting K Padmanabhan (popularly known as KP), who was a close confidante of Prabhakaran that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and DMK President M Karunandhi had allegedely encourged LTTE and sought the safe passage of Mr Prabhakaran from Sri Lanka to save his life.

‘I demand action and a CBI inquiry against Mr Chidambaram and Mr Karunanidhi to determine their role as Mr Prabhakar was directly involved in the assasination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.’ Mr Swamy said there was no iota of doubt that it was Mr Chidambaram who tried to save Mr Prabhakaran.

He wondered whether Mr Chidambaram had carried out orders to this supports effect from UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi or LTTE on his own, or peformed a ‘contract’ job’ for somebody.

If the UPA II government fails to order a CBI Probe, he would approach the courts to get a direction for a CBI inquiry, he charged. UNI
