New Delhi: President Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind Maulana Syed Arshad Madani strongly condemned the attack on social activist and flagbearer of communal harmony Swami Agnivesh who was attacked in Jharkhand. Maulana Madani said it is unfortunate for our country that Swami Agnivesh was attacked the day when the Supreme Court had categorically announced that mob violence has no place in the democracy. He said that the attack of Swami Agnivesh shows how the communal elements think themselves above the law and take law in their hands to oppress every such person who is against their ideology.
Maulana Madani said such incidents show that neither the central government nor the state governments are serious in stopping mob violence. He said Swami Agnivesh was attacked to silence him. He demanded that the perpetrators are put to trial and a law is brought to curb mob violence as per Supreme Court’s order.
