SUV hit an ambulance, a cancer patient with 3 other died

HYDERABAD: In a tragic incident, 4 people died on a road accident. This incident took place early on Friday at the Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road when a speeding SUV hit the median and overturned, colliding with an ambulance.

According to The New Indian Express report, the deceased were identified as B Vekateswar Rao(60),a cancer patient, his wife Subbalakshmi(55), elder brother Rama Rao (64) and ambulance driver B ShivashankarVaraprasad(27).

About two days ago, Rao’s family went to Eluru for his treatment and to meet some relatives. The doctors said the cancer was in an advanced stage and suggested to spend his remaining days at home. They hired an ambulance and started back home on Thursday evening which was heading to Ballari in Karnataka from Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.

Police suspect that the driver of SUV fell asleep which results in the accident. Rao’s son Hemachandra Rao and son-in-law were also in the ambulance suffered injuries. They were shifted to a hospital and undergoing treatment.

Adibatla inspector, P Narender said, “It was a ghastly sight when we reached the place. It seems the entire accident happened within seconds and the driver of the ambulance did not get any chance to react. We reached the spot in 10 minutes, Shiva still alive and pleading for help. Later he and Rama Rao died while being shifted to the hospital.”

A case has been registered under section 304 A (rash and negligent driving causing death) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the police said that further investigation is underway.
