Trends of migration towards urban areas are the main concern of the policy makers and planners of the developing countries, including India. They are facing problems due to huge urbanization. These were the views expressed in the keynote address delivered by Prof. D. Ravindra Prasad, Advisor Urban Governance, Administrative Staff College of India, here on the occasion of 2–day National Seminar on “Democratic Decentralization in Urban India for Good Governance and Sustainable Development” organized by Dept. of Political Science & Public Administration, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, in collaboration with ICSSR, New Delhi.
Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Vice Chancellor, MANUU in his presidential address, informed that we will bifurcate our Department of Political Science & Public Administration into Dept. of Pol. Science and Dept. of Public Administration, soon. He informed that Centre for Urban Studies will also be established in MANUU.
Prof. S. M. Rahmatullah, Registrar, I/c Head Dept. of Pol. Science and Pub. Admin., gave a brief introduction of seminar. Prof. V.S. Prasad, Former Director NAAC said that Education & Democracy is essential for any country. India has a Liberal Democracy. Capacity, Transparency and Accountability are its features. Sustainable development is assured through decentralization. In a Democracy; Social, Financial, Culture and Political strength comes through Decentralization in democratic system.
