An Emirati father, suspecting his teen age daughter has a relationship with a man, tied her and locked her up in her room for nearly a year before she was discovered by social authorities in Sharjah.
Following psychological treatment, the father became more understanding and started to treat his daughter so nicely that she asked authorities to take her back home.
Acting on a tip off, inspectors from the Sharjah Department of Social Services had gone to that house and discovered that a16-year-old girl had been tied up and locked up in her room for nearly a year.
The female inspectors found out that the father, in his 50s, wanted to punish his daughter “just because he suspected that she had a relationship with a man by contacting him through social networks,” said Afaf Al Marri, the Department’s director.
“Without bothering to confirm his suspicions, he simply left her tied up in that room for a full year,” she told Emirat Alyoum daily.
“The way he treated his daughter showed his intent to hurt her without any real reason apart from suspecting her…we found that the man was suffering from psychological problems as he suspected his daughter just because she had grown up.”
Marri said the girl was found in bad condition and was untied and calmed down before she was taken to the Department, where she was subjected to physical and psychological treatment.
“The Department also subjected the father to psychological rehabilitation…after completing treatment sessions, he became a normal person who treats his daughter nicely and is able to understand the stage through which she is passing,” she said.
“After she was treated, his daughter asked to be taken back home to be with her father….our inspectors making regular visits to that house to monitor the situation found that the father has drastically changed.”
