Suspected sunstroke death toll mounts to 23 in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, April 07: Three more people succumbed to suspected sunstroke today, taking the death toll to 23 in Orissa, even as heatwave continued to sweep across many parts of the state with the mercury touching 44.2 degree Celsius at Sambalpur, officials said.

While one man died at Keonjhar, one each died in Cuttack and Kendrapara districts, they said.

The mercury level touched 44.2 degree C mark at the western Orissa town of Sambalpur followed by 43 degree C at Titlagah, Balangir 42.4 deg C and Jharsuguda 43.3 deg C.

“The heatwave condition is likely to continue tomorrow,” MeT office director S Sahu said.
