All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had demanded the Govt. of India to drop ‘Surya Namaskar’ and ban Yoga from school syllabus. Honouring the Muslim sentiments, Center has decided to drop ‘Surya Namaskar’ from Yoga ‘Asanas’.
In April government was criticized on the use of “Aum”, a chant, while issuing a common protocol for celebrating International Yoga Day on 21st June.
Govt. is planning to make International Yoga Day falling on June 21 a mega event. It is expected that more than 40000 people from various parts of the country will perform ‘Asanas’ at Rajpat in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address this gathering.
The event will be conducted from 7 am to 7:35 am throughout the country. Mr. Shripad Naik, Minister of State for AYUSH told that his ministry is making an attempt to get this mega event registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
It may be noted that in December 2014 UN General Assembly passed a resolution to observe 21st June as International Yoga Day at the instance of PM Modi. More than 175 countries supported Modi’s proposal. It is construed as a major diplomatic achievement for India.
