Survey reveals, while economy grew by 7%, jobs increased by only 1.1%

New Delhi: A recently released report states that India’s economy is growing at just over 7% per year. However, in comparison, jobs increased by just 1.1% last year. The conducted survey covers eight key sectors of the non-farm economy.

In an earlier report, joblessness in India was at 5% in 2015. Also, under-employment was at a staggering rate of 35% of the labour force over 15 years of age, as per a news report by Business Insider.

Labour Bureau had carried out the surveys across the country, and these reports are their outcome.

Data suggests, the government is facing a growing employment crisis, even with the initiatives taken by it for getting people employed in the country. However, providing decent jobs was a promise made in the election manifesto for the general elections of 2014 that led BJP to the centre, as well as of several state elections.

The common household of India, which was depending upon Indian IT sector, has also been disfigured by the recent large-scale layoffs in several IT and BPO majors.
