The Students’ Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India, Karnataka zone released the results of a survey conducted by the organisation on 29 residential madrasas offering education up to the graduation level, here on May 12.
About 966 residential madrasas are present in Karnataka.
SIO zonal President, Mr. Thouseef Ahmed M.Y said that, “The syllabus has not evolved to adapt to opportunities and challenges in the society. Rather, a large number of students stay aloof from the mainstream after passing out from madrasas.”
The survey stresses upon the drawbacks, including the lack of fundamental infrastructure, education in core subjects, regional languages as well as English, training in computers and physical education .
Four out of 29 madrasas were ascribed as ‘model madrasas’ after the survey. The madrasas are Ziya-ul-uloom, Kandloor ; Jamiya Islamiya, Bhatkal ; Jamia-baithul-uloom, Sindgi and Houziya Ilmiya Bhakirul Uloom, Chickballapur. A combined effort is required from the Muslim community to improve the system, Mr. Touseef added.
Commissioner for Public Instruction, Mr. Mohammad Mohsin, said that a committee had been established to revise curriculum and a recruitment process for a team to aided madrasas, which come under the department.Courtesy:Karnataka Muslims
