Survaram replaces Bardhan as CPI General Secretray

The 21st National Council meeting of Communist Party of India being held at Patna on Saturday unanimously elected Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy of Andhra Pradesh as party General Secretary replacing present incumbent A B Bardhan.

Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy become the first leader from the State to have been elected to top post at the national level after a gap of 24 years. Suravaram Sudhakar would continue in the post for four years.

Born in Mahbubnagar district on March 25, 1942, he participated in agitations since his school days in Kurnool and completed his LLB from Osmania University. He was two time general secretary of AISF in 1966 and 1969 and president for 1970.

He was elected to Lok Sabha from Nalgonda Constituency in 1998 and 2004. He was assistant secretary of CPI from 1995-97, secretary, state council from 1997-2005 and presently working as deputy general secretary. (INN)
