London: Uncapped Surrey all-rounder Zafar Ansari, who was recently selected in the England Test squad, has dislocated his left thumb during a match against Lancashire.
The injury occurred when Ansari dropped a very difficult catch off Lancashire’s Ashwell Prince, ESPNcricinfo reported.
Confirming the news, Surrey Cricket wrote on Twitter, “Latest on Zafar Ansari is he has a open dislocation of the left thumb and the injury will be reviewed over the next couple of days.”
Ansari was named in the England’s squad on Tuesday for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
National selector James Whitaker had said that Ansari’s potential has excited them, adding that he would give strong competition for Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali in the Test squad.
The 23-year-old was one of three players uncapped at Test level included in England’s 16-man squad. Alex Hales and Adil Rashid were also named, while James Taylor was recalled.
England will play three Tests, four ODIs and three T20s against Pakistan in the upcoming tour, starting from October 13.(ANI)
