Surgery Blunders: Maharastra Woman’s Intestine was cut instead of fallopian tube

Yavatmal: A 26-year-old woman, who participated in a government-organised camp to undergo tubectomy, died  after a doctor mistakenly cut her small intestine instead of the fallopian tube at the camp in village Belora of Pusad tehsil on Thursday.

The other five members were also undergoing treatment after alleged botched up family planning operations at a health camp and four of them were admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC)

Dr Swapnil Satpute, the medical Officer of Belora Primary Health Centre, who conducted the operations is absconding, police said.
He also said a sum of Rs 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased.District Health Officer K Z Rathod said. “An inquiry under the Civil Surgeon has been ordered and on receiving the report we will take necessary action.”

Superintendent of Police M Raj Kumar said, “We will file an FIR as soon as we get a complaint in this regard.”

A tubectomy is a surgery that prevents pregnancies by blocking or severing a woman’s fallopian tubes.
