Vadodara: Nine pilgrims including eight of a family from Surat district in Gujarat were killed and three others were seriously injured in an accident near Karjan on Monday on National Highway-8, police said.
The mishap involving four vehicles–a luxury bus and three cars–took place late last night, around 40 kms from here, when the bus driver in a bid to avert a collision turned turtle killing 8 occupants in a car, according to J Y Chauhan Sub Inspector at Karjan police station.
The eight victims were returning to Surat after offering prayers at Pavagadh temple when the mishap occurred.
Two cars driving behind the bus also lost control due to the mishap, killing a woman and injuring three others in both the vehicles. According to police, the accident brought traffic to a halt on the highway for over an hour.
The injured have been admitted to a private hospital at Karjan in critical condition, Chauhan said.
The bodies have been sent for post mortem.
