Suraiya Hassan Bose gets Yudhvir Foundation Memorial Award

Suraiya Hassan Bose has been chosen for the 23rdh Yudhvir Foundation Memorial Award. She has been selected for the award in recognition to her services to improve the living standard of handloom weavers. The award will be presented by Padmashri Bilquis Lateef at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at L N Prasad Auditorium, FAPCCI Bhawan, Red Hills. Bilquis Lateef will deliver a lecture on the occasion.

Suraiya Hassan Bose who is widely known as Suraiya Aapa worked extensively to encourage local weavers to use their skills to make durries. The special workshop on weaving set up by Suraiya at Dargah Hussain Shah Wali on the outskirts of Hyderabad also attracts hundreds interested persons from all over India to learn the art of weaving.

Suraiya Hassan Bose, who had married Subhash Chandra Bose’s nephew Aurbindo Bose, also runs the Safrani Memorial School at Raidurgam for children from poor background. Her father Badarul Hasan established the first Khadi unit in Kareem Nagar. She belongs to the family of freedom fighters. She is very much impressed by the Gandhi ideology.
