Supreme Court says Mayawati has to reimburse money spent on ‘Elephant Statues’

The Supreme Court today has said that Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has to refund the public money spent on installing elephant statues, her party symbol, in Lucknow and Noida.

A petition filed by an advocate was heard in the top court who had said that public money cannot be used for building own statues and for propagating the political party.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi stated that”We are of the tentative view that Mayawati has to deposit the public money spent on her statues and party symbol to the state exchequer.”

The bench will hear the case next on April 2, the bench also included justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjeev Khanna. “We will have it for final disposal on April 2,” the Supreme Court added.
