As the elections in the northeastern states over, volunteers of Aam Admi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party are heading for the high-profile constituencies of Amethi and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.
More than 100 AAP supporters from Assam have reached the Varanasi where their party leader Arvind Kejriwal is challenging BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Hundreds of BJP supporters from Assam are also on their way to the holy city.
“Our volunteers from Assam have fanned out in Varanasi and Amethi to campaign for Arvind Kejriwal and Kumar Vishwas,” said Pranjal Bordoloi, senior AAP leader in Assam. Amethi will go to polls on May 7 and Varanasi on May 12.
However, According to BJP’s election in-charge in Assam Sudhanshu Mittal, the volunteers are going on their on. “These volunteers are going purely for their love and respect for the Narendra bhai,” he said.
“Around 150 to 200 volunteers from the BJP’s Yuva Morcha and other affiliated wings of the party are now camping in Varanasi. More volunteers will join in coming days as election battle there is intensifying,” a senior BJP leader said.
