Hyderabad, September 23: Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Thursday appealed to seed companies in the state to supply qualitative seeds to farmers.
Participating as chief guest at a programme organized under the aegis of Seedmen Association to mark its 16th anniversary at FAPCCI Bhavan, the Deputy Chief Minister said that it was responsibility of seed companies to ensure qualitative supply of seeds to farmers in the state. Stating that the Government was supplying only limited percentage of the total demand of seeds, he said that the farmers would have to get the rest from private companies.
Recalling that a few private companies had supplied low-quality seeds to the farmers in the last season and the crop had failed, he warned that the government would initiate serious action seed companies which supply spurious seeds to farmers. He said that the government would even cancel their licence. He said that the government was ready to hold consultations with seed companies to ensure supply of qualitative seeds.
