Super Mom set an example, outshines son in class XII exams

Mothers are unbeatable, even in exams. This was proven by an Assamese woman.

Nayanmoni 37 outperformed her son Ankur, 18, in the class XII final exam in Assam securing first division with 69.8% and above 80% in sociology. Both have attended the examination as regular students.

However the mother feels upset that her son only managed to pass the third division. “How can I be happy? I would be delighted if my son too had done better. We always look up to him for a better living,” Nayanmoni, said.

“I shelved my books when I was married off at a very early age. I always wanted to start from where I had left the education, but poverty acted as a barrier,” she said.

Nayanmoni, who is said to be studious, used to cycle her way to the school every day located some 12km away from her village.

“We are all proud. She has proven that age and poverty cannot stand in the way of excellence. She will surely inspire many who dropped out early owing to poverty,” said Sontora Gogoi, principal of the Khowang Pithubor Girls’ High School.

Nayanmoni wants to pursue her higher studies in Assamese. “Assamese is my favourite subject. I want to excel in it,” she said.

“We are all sure that kismet will smile on us one day through her,” her Husband said.
