Sunstroke toll in Orissa mounts to 105

Orissa, April 27: The death toll due to suspected sunstroke in Orissa mounted to 105 with two more deaths reported on Monday as an alarmed state government reviewed the situation and ordered immediate steps to deal with it.

The two fresh deaths were reported from the Bargarh district, official sources said.

Though the state reeled under gruelling heat, many places recorded marginal fall in temperature, including in Bhubaneswar where the maximum temperature during the day was 39.1 degrees Celsius compared to 40 degrees on Sunday, Met office sources said.

Talcher recorded a maximum of 43.5 degrees Celsius, while in Jharsuguda it was 43.3 degrees, in Sambalpur 43.2 degrees and in Sundargarh 42.5 degrees, the sources said.

The state government reviewed the situation at a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar and directed all district administrations to take immediate steps to ensure supply of drinking water in all areas.
