Sunanda Pushkar was murdered, says Delhi Police

Sunanda Pushkar, wife of former union minister Shashi Tharoor, was murdered, confirmed Delhi Police on Tuesday shortly after registering a case of murder against unknown persons.

The case has been registered under Section 302 of IPC.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi confirmed that a murder case has been registered after the medical board report said that it is a case of unnatural death.

“It is not a case of natural death. The medical report states that she was poisoned. Whether the poison was administered in the form of injection or orally is being probed,” Bassi said.

He added that samples collected after the death of Pushkar will be sent abroad for further tests.

Hinting at the possibility of questioning Tharoor, he said, “Witnesses have been examined by the SDM in the case. We will examine whoever is required to be examined.”

A special team has also been formed to investigate the case.

It happened a day after her spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter over the latter’s alleged affair with Tharoor.

On October 19, 2014, it was reported that poison had been found in the final viscera report of Pushkar.

The viscera report had been submitted by AIIMS doctors to Delhi Police on September 30.

The AIIMS medical board report had confirmed poisoning as the reason behind her death. However, it did not mention the type of poison that caused her death.

The samples are likely to be sent to forensic laboratory abroad to ascertain which poison was used.
