Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today appeared in a local court here in connection with a case of poll violence in 1999.
Sukhbir appeared in the court of Judicial Magistrate Satish Kumar who fixed February 25 the next date of hearing in the case, Defence advocate Satnam Singh said.
On February 2, the court had asked Sukhbir to appear before it in person.
The Deputy CM appeared in a court after eight years as he had earlier been exempted from personal appearance.
Naresh Sehgal, a Kotkapura resident, had filed a case against Sukhbir and a few others in connection with poll violence that took place in Kotkapura in 1999 when the Punjab Deputy Chief Minister had contested the parliamentary elections from Faridkot.
The case against Sukhbir and others was registered on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2006 after Sehgal had approached the court.
The high court had put a stay on the case in September 2008 but it was vacated a single-judge bench on December 21 last year.
