Kathmandu : Nepali Congress (NC) Party leader Sujata Koirala on Wednesday announced her candidacy for the post of party president.
The announcement was made at a press conference held in her residence in Mandikhatar area of Kathmandu.
Koirala, a politician and the only daughter of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said the decision to vie for the post was to safeguard the political lineage of her father and uncle B.P Koirala, both former Prime Ministers of Nepal.
However, she did not announce the names for the posts of general secretary among others from her panel.
Koirala, along with Ram Chandar Paudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula from the establishment faction and Sher Bahadur Deuba from the rival faction are contending for the post.
Reportedly, Paudel and Situala will announce their candidacies for the top post today, while Deuba will make the announcement his candidacy tomorrow.
The 13th general convention of the NC will commence in Kathmandu from Thursday and will conclude on March 6.(ANI)
