Suitcase leads to bomb scare

Hyderabad, October 22: An abandoned suitcase near a bus stop at Nallakunta on Wednesday led to a bomb scare. The suitcase belonged to an engineering student from Prakasam district but it is not known whether he forgot the suitcase or it was abandoned by thieves who might have stolen it from him.

According to the police, a youth visited a public telephone booth near the Lingalagadda bus stop on Wednesday afternoon. He left a suitcase there informing the telephone booth owner that he would return after having lunch at a nearby tiffin centre.

The youngster did not return for more than 30 minutes which led the telephone booth owner to press the panic button. Suspecting that the suitcase might contain explosives, the booth owner informed the police.

Nallakunta police and bomb disposal squads rushed to the spot and shifted the suitcase to a nearby driedup Batukammakunta pond to search the suitcase for possible explosives.

No explosives were found. Instead, police recovered a few pairs of clothes, bedsheets and an identity card in the suitcase. The identity card belongs to Mahesh, an engineering student from Dr Samuel George Engineering college at Markapur in Prakasam district.
