Suicides, thing of past in Sircilla: CM

Hyderabad, July 13: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today complimented bankers for making suicide among weavers ‘a thing of past in Sircilla Town.’ ”Suicides by weavers have abated in Sircilla.

It is now only history,” he said while speaking after inaugurating the 166th State-Level Bankers Committee(SLBC) Meeting here. This was made possible by focussing on lending to weavers’ community after forming Self Help Groups.

SLBC President and Andhra Bank Chairman and Managing Director R S Reddy said with active support from the government machinery, public sector banks had taken up financing in Sircilla Town to mitigate the woes of weaver families. ”It is a positive demonstration of welfare orientation of banks.

I am very happy to inform the House that recoveries are good in the loans extended. ”I assure the Chief Minister that banks are prepared to stand by government in meeting such challenges in future also.”
