Nizamabad, April 23: The funeral of Mohd. Rafi (19) who committed suicide by burning himself alleging that he was being harassed by a few police constables in a murder case in Kamareddi was held amid tight security on Friday.
The police were on high alert in the wake of news that friends and relatives of Rafi were about to hold protest demonstration and were not prepared to conduct the last rites until the constables allegedly responsible for the death of the youth were arrested and punished.
A strong posse of police force including a number of Circle Inspectors of Police and Sub-Inspectors of Police were deployed in the town to face any untoward incidents. However, with the initiative of Muslim minority leaders and the clear assurance made by the Superintendent of Police K. Venkateswar Rao to take a stringent action on the policemen who were found guilty, the friends and relatives of Mr. Rafi relented.
Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police already announced that three constables were placed under suspension and efforts were onto arrest them. Tirupati, an ID party constable, who was the prime accused in the harassment of the youth was reportedly absconding. The Superintendent of Police appointed the Armoor Deputy Superintendent of Police Md. Gousemoinuddin as the investigating officer in the case.
