Hyderabad: Sudheer Commission of Enquiry which was constituted to enquire into the educational, social and economic backwardness of the Muslims will submit its report today to CM of Telangana State, Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao.
This commission was constituted under the chairmanship of Rtd. IAS officer, Mr. G. Sudheer. Its other members were Mr. Mohammed Amerullah Khan, Mr. Abdus Shaban and Mr. Mohammed Abdul Bari.
It may noted that Mr. KCR had made a promise in the election manifesto of TRS in 2014 that in the event of TRS assuming power in Telangana, 12% reservations would be provided to Muslims within four months. However, this issue was shelved in cold storage.
Later, Mr. Amer Ali Khan, News Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily started a movement by organizing public meetings and signature campaign to invite the attention of Mr. KCR. The signature campaign was a very big success in all the 10 districts of Telangana. Sudheer Commission was not provided even the requisite infrastructure and staff. After this campaign, Govt. came into action and provided basic amenities to the commission. Govt. also extended the tenure of the commission twice. The last extension is due to end in the last week of September 2015.
The commission has admitted in its report that the educational, social and economic conditions of the Muslims are very miserable and they deserve special attention and privileges from the Govt. However about providing reservation to Muslims, the commission did not hint at recommending 12% reservations to Muslims. This issue has been left to the discretion of the Govt. and Mr. KCR.
The chairman of the commission, Mr. Sudheer had visited Telangana Districts and also consulted representative personalities of the Muslims. It is hoped that after the presentation of the report, its recommendations would be made public.
