Solidarity day with the houseless was celebrated on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday yesterday. Amman Brotherhood, campus for citizens’ shelters, Junior chamber, India, Nirasraya Sharmikh Sangharshana Sanghathan organized special programs on the intervening night of 1st and 2nd October in which the citizen of Hyderabad got an opportunity to know the difficulties of the houseless people. Mr. Harsh Mandar, the noted social activist also participated in the program held at 7 p.m. on 1st October at Secunderabad clock tower. Nearly 1500 houseless children participated in the program and presented their cultural items. They showed that they also posses talents. They only need proper guidance.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Harsh Mandar was forced to say that such scenes can only be seen in Hyderabad where the houseless children belonging various religion and races gathered together. The important thing is that such people have given them shelter who do not belong to their religion. Mr. Mandar was very much impressed by seeing that Muslim teachers are teaching to non-Muslim students and they are supporting Hindu children. Mr. Harsh Mandar also told that such scenes are a slap on the faces of communal elements. He further told that the three hour he spent here have become the memorable events of his life which he can never forget.
Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, Managing Editor of Siasat Urdu Daily in his brief speech told that he felt very happy to be amongst these houseless children. He spent a good time with them. He said that he is confident that given the proper guidance, these children could emerge as successful human beings.
The next day, the office bearers of these organizations went to Nampally Railway Station and expressed their solidarity with the houseless people. They were of the opinion that the people should think about these houseless people and to come forward to arrange welfare activities for them. They should join the campaign to provide shelter to these houseless people. It may be noted that all these voluntary organization have been struggling to get constitutional and democratic for all the citizen. They approach the houseless people and persuade them to join other families who could provide them shelter.
Islam lays more importance on feeding the hungry, clothing the unclothed and giving shelter to the houseless. Muslim organizations could also work in this field along with their compatriots and communicate this message of Islam to others. They should show them that Islam is always in the fore front of helping the victims, poor, week and the deserving persons.
