Maulana Ghulam Mohamad Vastanvi started a school in 1979 in a hut in the remote tribal area of Akkalkuwa with just six students. Today, the humble school has grown into an institute, the Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom, which has over 2 lakh students on its rolls in schools across India.
Vastanvi is also behind construction of 4,500 masjids across India where lakhs of Muslims prostrate before God.
After imparting religious education for 15 years Maulana Ghulam Mohamad Vastanvi turned towards modern education. He began with ITI. In 1996 he established Ahmed Ghareeb Unani medical college. He established Indian Institute of Medical Science & College. The Medical College is spread over 40 acres of land and has 700 beds. There are also about 1700 maktabs and more than 5000 mosques have been built in the length and breadth of Maharashtra.
