London, November 28: Success is in sight at the looming Copenhagen talks on climate change, UN chief Ban Ki-moon says, after encouraging signs at a summit of Commonwealth nations.
“We must not fail. Success in Copenhagen is in sight. We must seize the moment to seal the deal,” said the UN Secretary General, urging all world leaders to attend the final days of the Copenhagen talks.
Ban said he was convinced that the talks would clinch a strong statement on setting targets to curb greenhouse gases, blamed for global warming.
But he warned, after giving a rare address to the 53-nation Commonwealth, that only heads of state and government could take the tough decisions needed to commit their nations to cutting their carbon output.
