Substandard vegetables in govt. packages at Rythu Bazaars

Hyderabad, January 15: The Agriculture and Marketing Department had announced 2 days earlier that it would be supplying special vegetable packet at Rs 99 to the citizens of Hyderabad who are reeling under the sky rocketing prices.

The Rs 99 package contains 2 kg onions, 250 grams chillies, tomatoes, brinjals and potatos, cauliflower, cabbage and carrots at all city farmers marking outlets ‘Rythu Bazaars’ such as Falaknuma , Mehdipatnam , Erragadda , Kukatpally, Alwal, Saroornagar, Vanislipuram, RK Puram and Qutubullahpur.

The second package, which costs Rs 49 contains 1 kg onion, 250 gram green chillies, Tamoto, Brinjals, Potatos, carrots, each weighing 500 grams, cauliflower and cabbage on each.

The announcement drew sighs of relief from the citizens when it was made, but the sighs of relief have turned into sighs of groans on seeing the quality of the vegetables included in the ‘package’.

Compared to the vegetables available in the open market, the ones in the package are quite sub-standard.

However the Director of Marketing and Agriculture Department refused to believe that there was anything bad about their quality.

He said that there have been no complaints from the buyers. This was despite the contents of the package being shown to him.
