Srinagar, October 15: A sub-inspector was arrested by State Vigilance Organisation after being caught red handed, while accepting a bribe to settle a property dispute in Kupwara district.
Sub-Inspector Ghulam Ahmad Shah posted in Police Station Kupwara was arrested by sleuths of SVO at Bumhama village of Kupwara, 90 kilometres from here this afternoon for accepting Rs 1,000 from a person, a spokesman of the SVO said here this evening.
He said a written complaint was lodged by Fayaz Ahmad Reshi alleging that the officer was demanding bribe to act on his complaint registered in the Police station Kupwara regarding grabbing of a piece of land.
Immediately after receiving the complaint from Reshi, a case was registered under Prevention of Corruption Act and the officer was caught red handed, the spokesman said.
He said that the bribe money was recovered from the Sub-Inspector and he was taken into custody for further investigation.
