Studying in the Summer

Hyderabad, April 20: Students slog throughout the year and are thirsty for that two months of sweet freedom called summer vacation. Students chill out with their friends, go for movies, laze around the house. However, there are also many students, mainly intermediate 2nd year, who are more focused on their academics and are opting for tuition in summer in order to get high scores in their final exams.

Many students feel that the tuition will help them excel in their studies. Architha, a student from Sri Chaitanya, opted for home tutorials this summer. She says, “I am taking tuition in physics as it is quite difficult. Since I am the only student I get full attention of my teacher. It helps me to understand the concepts better and quickly.” She also says that her teacher gives her helpful maths tips too. Another student from St. Ann’s, Khatija, feels, “Tuition helps me understand the subject better and it makes my problems easier.”

Another interesting aspect was presented by Leena, from St. Ann’s, Mehandipatnam. She says, “Since I am sportsperson, I miss the first two hours of classes at college. They happen to Maths classes. So if I opt for tuition now, it will help me make up for the lost classes and I won’t lag behind.”

Many students also feel that summer classes are very beneficial as they teach beforehand what will be taught in the college. Khatija further adds, “Since the concepts are taught beforehand, understanding them in college becomes much easier.” Another major advantage of these out-of-school classes is that they have less number of students and each student is under the watchful eye of the teacher. Says Ayesha, from St. Ann’s, Mehandipatnam, “There are not more than 18 to 20 in my batch. Whereas in college my class houses 40 to 45 students. Since there are less students, we get individual attention from the teachers”.

Many of these classes are divided into batches — morning and evening batch. Since these batches last up to at least two hours, the students have the rest of the day off. Ayesha also says, “Since the class is only for one and half hour a day, the rest of the day we are free to enjoy our vacation.” Uttej, a MEC student from Pragathi Junior College prefers morning batches over evening batches. The reason he gives that, “I am fresh in the morning and my minds also works fast and quickly. As the day progresses I get tried and everything around me seems boring.”

The atmosphere at the institute and the attitude of the teachers are also very important. According to Ayesha, “My teachers are very friendly and nice. They don’t scold and patiently explain the doubts no matter how many times we ask them.” Raja Gopal from Desai Institute, Mallepally, opines, “The atmosphere here is quite friendly. We believe in hard work as nothing can be achieved without it. We ensure that each student gets the personal attention from the teachers.” He further adds, “Since there are only 10 students per batch each student is under the eye of the teacher.”
