Study team to TN for Satellite imagery on paddy: Pocharam

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today said use of satellite imagery technology will boost paddy cultivation and yield in the State. Similar technology being used in Tamil Nadu, which can be replicated in the State, he said after a meeting with officials concerned at Secretariat here.

The minister asked Agriculture Secretary Parthasarathy to send an official team to Chennai to study the implementation of Satellite Imagery Data and plan to replicate it in Telangana. “Since such imagery is used every 12 days to improve paddy cultivation, we can take steps to improve yield”, he felt.

The minister held a meeting with principal scientist and director economic division and program leader Dr Samarendu Mohanty and Economist IRRI-India Program Delhi representative Dr Aldas Janaiah. On the occasion, the team gave a power-point presentation on the use of satellite technology to find out details of paddy crops once 12 days. The satellite technology linkage will help enable the farmers get data and improve paddy crop and get better yield. The same technology being successfully used in Tamil Nadu, they said. The minister later asked Parthasarathi to send a study team to Chennai to get the details of a plan to be replicated in Telangana, a release said. (NSS)
